Finding Your Work — Section 2 of 820 / 90 min

Section 2 · 10 min

Where Do I Go in JSM?

It's 2:00 AM. My phone just alerted me. Where do I go?

The goal of this section is simple: you should be comfortable finding your operational work without hunting for it.

The 2 AM path

Notification → Open Jira / JSM → Alert → Review operational context

  1. Notification
  2. Open Jira / JSM
  3. Alert
  4. Review operational context

Your operational workspace

These are the areas responders use day to day. Configuration screens are out of scope and available only to the JSM admins at AP

Operations

The operational home for alerts, on-call and incidents inside Jira Service Management.

Alerts

Where signals land. Filter to your team's alerts, or the ones assigned to you.

My / team alerts

Use the saved or filtered views to separate what you own from everything else that is firing.

Teams

Who owns the response for a given service, and who is currently carrying the pager.

On-Call

Who is on-call right now, when your rotation starts and ends, and who is next.

Incidents

The coordination record when something needs a broader, managed response.

Services

What business or technical capability an alert or incident is actually affecting.

Alert anatomy

Select any element of the alert to see why it matters to you as a responder.

Alert title

Your first read on what happened. If the title is unclear, go straight to the description and extra properties.

Key Concept 1

The notification tells you work exists. The alert is where you work it.

Pick the alert view you will actually live in, your team's alerts, or the ones assigned to you are some good options. This lets you access the views directly instead of having to navigate from scratch each time.
